A new purple colorway for the Xbox wireless controller that shipped with the Xbox Series X|S may be on the way. Providing consumers with even more choice for customizing their gameplay experience through accessories. According to Dealabs Magazine’s Billbil-kun (via Video Games Chronicle), Microsoft is planning to launch an Astral Purple version of the Xbox Wireless controller soon.
Technically, this controller already exists. Just not in the form you might think. With controllers like Electric Volt or the more recently released Stormcloud Vapor, you buy the controller as is. No different from a standard black or white controller. Astral Purple however is currently available as an Xbox Design Lab color option only. But the rumor states that Microsoft plans to launch the color proper outside of the design lab. However, if you didn’t want to wait you could always create an Astral Purple option yourself.
The Astral Purple Xbox controller is set to launch in September
The controller isn’t available outside of the design lab yet but it isn’t far off if the rumor is correct. Based on the leak Microsoft will launch the controller on September 19. In the US it’ll retail for $64.99, which is $5 less than it would cost you to get this color through the design lab.
And it should come with fully Astral Purple face buttons. Something that you don’t get to choose in the design lab customization. In the EU pricing will be the same at €64.99. UK customers will reportedly be able to pick up for £59.99. One thing to keep in mind is that Microsoft could announce and launch this controller before the rumored date, or after. But you might want to keep an eye out for it starting next month as it may arrive.
Other than the color, there won’t be anything different from the other already available options. But if purple is your thing, there’s no reason not to add this to the collection.
