Fontaines D.C. played the first show to launch their new album ‘Romance’ at an intimate Brooklyn show last night (Wednesday May 8) – giving two unreleased songs their live debut. Check out footage and more below.

Last night, the Dublin band – comprised of Grian Chatten, Tom Coll, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III  and Carlos O’Connell – took over the legendary Warsaw venue in Brooklyn, New York.

They played to a sold-out crowd of 1000 at the ballroom venue, marking the first show of their new era leading into their fourth studio album ‘Romance‘ which is due for release on August 23 via XL Recordings.

Airing their new Shygirl and Sega Bodega-inspired cyberpunk look, the band playedthe opening title track of ‘Romance’ as they arrived on stage. The haunting song was first used in the band’s The Shining-inspired teaser video last month. They then dove in to ‘Nabokov’ before going in to ‘A Lucid Dream’ and the title track from ‘Skinty Fia‘.

Fontaines D.C. performed a blend of tracks spanning all three of their LP’s with classics such as ‘Sha Sha Sha’, ‘Boys In The Better Land’, ‘I Don’t Belong’, ‘Televised Mind’, ‘Jackie Down The Line’ and more – including electrifying new single ‘Starburster’ as their final song before diving into a three-track encore.

In a glowing five-star review of the track, NME called it the Dubliners’ “most experimental work yet” adding that Fontaines D.C. had “taken a perfect left turn” to usher in their next chapter.

The track leans more bright and airy, reminiscent of The La’s. The band ended the night with the fan favourite ‘I Love You’.

Familiar faces were in attendance such as Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner and New York City indie rockers and NME cover alumnus Been Stellar, who will be supporting Fontaines D.C. on their North American tour later this year.
