Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed that Threads’ web version might come as soon as next week.
Back in early August, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed plans for launching a Threads web version. He also said a search feature is coming to the app. At the time, Zuckerberg said, “Search and web coming in the next few weeks.” Instagram’s CEO has now stated they’re using an early internal version, and the final version might be released to the users in the coming weeks.
“We’re working on it! We’ve been using an early version internally for a week or two. Still needs some work before we can open it up to everyone, though…” Mosseri said in response to a tweet.
Meta will release a Threads web version in the next coming weeks
While Instagram chief says they’re internally testing Threads web version, The Wall Street Journal reported that “launch plans aren’t final and could change.” We still don’t know if this change is related to the release date or features included in the app.
After skyrocketing growth in the initial weeks of release, Threads has lost over 80% of its daily active users. If Meta wants to retain its massive user base, it needs to add more creative features to give users a reason to stay in the app.
A web version is one of the highly demanded features for Threads. The app first launched as a clone of X (formerly known as Twitter), and many experts criticized it for its lack of innovation. However, Meta is gradually adding new features to Threads to make it hang in the same crowd as X.
A follow feed and the ability to verify a link with your Mastodon profile are recently added Threads. More features will certainly come to the app in the coming months. Despite these, users also demand a search feature that allows them to search for more content on the platform. The current search feature only allows for searching usernames.
