This Fall’s Standout Suit

Today, I’m excited to highlight one of the latest additions to the He Spoke Style Shop: our forest green suit in flannel. It’s honestly a piece I’ve wanted to add to the collection for quite some time. Not only is its rich color and soft feel the perfect complement to fall, but its versatility and timelessness will ensure that you’ll be wearing it and enjoying it for years and years to come.

In this post, I’ll be discussing why I believe you should add a forest green flannel suit to your fall wardrobe, four specific benefits of this suit, how and why I chose to style the suit the way I did, and showing you one way you can wear it.

Let’s get into it.

Why Do You Need A Forest Green Flannel Suit?

The obvious answer to this question is most certainly, “Why not?!” But for those who would like a little bit more of an explanation, here are four reasons why I think a forest green suit in flannel is the perfect addition to your fall suit lineup.

Evokes the feel of the season

Dressing for any season is all about feel and for fall, a forest green flannel suit is one of the best garments to harness that singular autumn feeling. The color’s deep and rich hue along with the fabric’s softness, warmth, and coziness, are pretty much about as fall feeling as you can get.

Complements the fall colors

One of the keys to looking good while dressing seasonally is to wear colors that harmonize with that particular season. And for autumn, that means rich, earthy tones—think the colors of the changing leaves. Not only does a forest green flannel suit evoke the feel of the season, but it also provides an exceptional foundation upon which to create cohesive and seamless fall looks.

Timeless and classic

When it comes to conversations about timeless and classic colors, forest green often becomes a bit of a bit player due to the dominance (and prominence) of navy blue and gray. But we’re talking about timeless and classic fall colors here and for that list, forest green ranks right up there. We believe in getting the most out of every garment, especially suits, and forest green is not only a color that never goes out of style, but it is exceptionally versatile.

Versatile and stylish

As I was saying… Forest green provides a solid foundation upon which to build classic and stylish fall looks. It pairs well with a variety of other earthy fall colors, like burnt orange, rust, golden yellow, brown, ochre, golden yellow, and more. In addition—and perhaps one of the biggest benefits of owning a forest green flannel suit—is that not only do you get a great seasonal suit, but you also instantly have a killer sport coat and versatile pair of pants.

Styling

In terms of garment styling, I’ve gone pretty classic and conservative. The jacket is two-button with a notch lapel in my usual 3.5” width with the addition of a beautiful Milanese buttonhole. It has a double vent, a tone on tone lining, brown buttons, and flap pockets.

Given the overall more casual look and feel of forest green flannel, you could certainly make the case for patch pockets instead of flap pockets. I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with you, but I feel as though flap pockets make it slightly easier to dress the suit up, if needed, say, for an autumn wedding with a dress code that leans more formal. Hey, it’s all about planning.

I’ve styled the pants mostly to my usual specifications—side adjusters instead of belt loops and a two-inch cuff, which I highly recommend for any flannel or tweed garment. Longtime fans will no doubt notice one particular detail that I’ve changed for this suit. Instead of my favored single reverse pleat, I’ve gone with a flat front here.

For the outfit styling, I decided to lean into the suit’s more causal nature along with the colors of the season. Our brown gingham dress shirt feels right at home paired with the forest green, lending a more casual touch. And the rust-colored necktie and brown shoes add a measure of earthiness that is definitely in keeping with a classic autumnal palette.

The Bottom Line

From it’s timeless and classic autumn style, its singular ability to evoke the feel of the season, and its incredible versatility, there really is no better suit to add to your fall wardrobe than a forest green flannel suit. In addition to that, it’s also sure to stand out in all the best ways and make a statement without saying much at all.
