Last week merged the world of sports and fashion at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Known for its fine taste in style, the city definitely sprinkled its sartorial pixie dust on celebrities and sports enthusiasts. While the activities were indeed a spectacle, the fashion leaned toward personalization. From Beyoncé advocating for sporty chic to Cynthia Erivo championing sassy glamour, each woman strutted with a certain je ne sais quoi akin to the City of Lights. Just like good cuisine, each look unraveled balanced flavors and attractive presentation.

The theme should have been “Be yourself” as everyone showed up as they deemed fit. While South African singer Tyla pulled off a sultry athleisure fit, tennis icon Serena Williams chose the other end of the spectrum in a solid black suit. Also, as Zendaya made a case for neat black shimmers, hip-hop queen Mary J. Blige gave an affirmative nod to green prints. Indeed, it was such a colorful weekend in energy and tone. Paris is known as a fashion city, and last week saw more interesting add-ons to its poised reputation.

The Looks

Spaghetti straps are as enduring as they are elegant, and Zendaya reminded us this timeless trend will always come correct. She wore a shimmering black spaghetti strap LV dress with simple heeled sandals and a mini bag to the prelude of the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Meanwhile, model Cindy Bruna seemed to agree with ease as she opted for a halterneck crocheted dress for the same event. Lightweight, colorful, and whimsy, Bruna’s offering was in line with summer’s upbeat vibe.

Solange Knowles! The mere sound of her name builds expectancy in the fashion department. The singer lived up to her reputation in a pleated The Row 2025 Resort set to the Watermill Center Annual Benefit. The pants set flaunted an asymmetric neckline, and she enlivened it with chunky gold earrings. Meanwhile, her sister Queen Bey played with the colors of the American flag, showing her solidarity for her country ahead of the Olympic games. She donned a crop top, pleated mini skirt, and oversized bomber jacket finished off with a baseball hat inscribed with “2024.” No doubt, both Knowles sisters understand how to chart a memorable course with fashion.

Cynthia Erivo stood on business in Paris with an elegant green dress, a chic hat, and black pumps in check. Her eclectic style snuck its way in with her gold jewelry and uber-long nails. Rocking head-to-toe green, Mary J. Blige decided to defy the weather and step out in boots. She punched things up with stacks of jewelry, because why not?
