In fashion’s defense, it’s too huge a phenomenon to be intimidated. The past week was a fiery ball of style, rolling in full momentum and affecting everything it came in contact with it. Starting from the city of Paris, in full sparkle mode for Couture Week, and culminating with the 2024 BET Awards, celebs sizzled in eclectic pieces with diverse interpretations, appealing to a variety of tastes.
Shimmers had their thrill last week. Naomi Campbell stepped on the pedals in a silver Chanel skirt set at the brand’s show, while Gugu Mbatha-Raw nodded at embellished vibes in a fringe Prada number with sequin and applied micro-crystal details. Another ubiquitous fad was Thom Browne quirky energy that was on display at Paris Fashion Week. Stars like Teyana Taylor and Jodie Turner-Smith sported works of art from the brand, slaying without restraint.
The Looks
Jordyn Woods was on a sartorial row this past week in Paris. She took on the city and leveraged its fashion aura. Every look slapped, but blue seemed to be her color, especially the Robert Wun corset dress that flaunted her figure. She elevated this with a fascinator and elbow-length gloves. Blue also sprinkled its rizz on Victoria Monét. She wore a Jagne cutout dress styled with matching altered gloves to receive the ASCAP Vanguard Award at the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards in LA. She intended to press necks, and she executed it perfectly.
Kerry Washington took on the City of Lights in an all-black Balenciaga fit at Paris Fashion Week. Featuring a structured turtleneck top with pronounced shoulder pads, a leather midi pencil skirt, tights, and pumps, the look championed understated chic with much gusto.
Meanwhile, Fantasia chose the edgy route for the 2024 Forbes BLK Summit. The ensemble, a structured leather jacket styled with a white collared shirt, black flare pants, a tie, and a silver mini bag, was the apt way to serve fashion for business. The week was an eventful affair for the actress who received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and also celebrated her birthday.
