The Big Lebowski actor was spotted eating at Bubba’s Fish Market in the south Dublin town of Dalkey on Saturday evening (31 August).
Buscemi is currently there filming the new season of the Netflix‘s hit series Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega and directed by Tim Burton.
“No one at my table recognised him except for me; I’m a huge movie buff, so I knew him straight away,” fellow diner Oisín Heavey told the Irish Independent. We were having dinner, and he was at the table beside us for 90 minutes.”
After the actor finished his meal, Heavey said that his wife noticed a crowd gathering outside the restaurant, which they assumed was for the actor.
“We could see there were loads of people outside, kind of looking up towards where he had gone, so we assumed he was spotted,” he said.
“When we went outside, there was actually a very vicious fight going on, and that’s what everybody was looking at.”
He explained: “Steve Buscemi was kind of standing there completely unnoticed. He was very close to it, but he held himself back from breaking it up. He stood over the guy on the ground for a few seconds, and the fight naturally broke up after that.
“Some people said he broke up the fight, but he didn’t. He tried to help, which is more than most people would do.”
“He was very nice, friendly, and engaging. He looked me in the eyes and talked to me properly,” said Heavey. “I just wanted to say to him that it’s not a representation of Ireland and I hope he enjoys his trip.”
Buscemi is joining the cast of Wednesday as Barry Dort, the new principal of Nevermore Academy.
The show relocated its production from Romania to Ireland for the upcoming second season, which is expected to release on Netflix in early 2025.
In a recent interview, director Tim Burton said the record-breaking series stopped him from wanting to retire.
