Actor Steve Buscemi was reportedly attacked by a random man in Manhattan, New York last week.

Per a report from the New York Post, Buscemi was walking in the Kips Bay neighbourhood on Manhattan’s East side on Wednesday (May 8) with an unnamed female, when he was approached by a random man who walked up to him and punched him in the face.

The bearded man was sporting a baseball cap, a blue t-shirt and black sweatpants, and fled the scene after Buscemi fell to the floor. The New York Post reports that the local authorities have yet to apprehend the assailant, and are still on the search for Buscemi’s attacker.

Buscemi’s publicist told the New York Post that the actor is “ok” but sustained a swollen left eye and face, and was taken to a hospital for treatment shortly after the incident: “He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of New York.”

A witness – a worker in the area who asked only to be named as Nat – said in a statement to the New York Post: “I saw he was with a woman, and then through the corner of the window I saw him trip and fall backwards. He right away got up and ran in the opposite direction. I didn’t see who hit him. It worries me for when we close because we close at 11 and it can get scary around that time,” said the woman, who asked to be identified only as Nat.

Buscemi is the latest actor to be targetted in seemingly random acts of violence. In March, Buscemi’s Boardwalk Empire co-star Michael Stuhlbarg was also attacked in Manhattan’s Central Park, when he was hit in the back of the neck with a rock. Stuhlbarg chased down his assailant, who was taken into custody.

Steve Buscemi has appeared in hit films and TV series such as Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, Armageddon, Pulp Fiction, Grown Ups, The King Of Staten Island and others. He is next due to star in season two of Netflix’s Wednesday.
