SteelSeries has sent out an update this week to its line of Apex Pro keyboards to initiate what we like to refer to as the Rapid Trigger protocol. Via a software update using the SteelSeries GG software suite, users can speed up the actuation of their keyboards and add in some nifty new features that can help give them an edge in their favorite games. Speed is key (get it? GET IT?) when it comes to competitive online games and even just a fraction of a second can make all the difference.

That’s why it’s important that your keyboard is able to relay commands as fast as possible to the game you’re playing. SteelSeries Apex Pro keyboards have been doing this since they launched with the OmniPoint 2.0 switches. The keyboards still do this, of course. But there’s been some name changes to go along with the updates that makes things faster.

SteelSeries Apex Pro actuation gets even faster with Rapid Trigger

SteelSeries Rapid Trigger

Rapid fire actuation is the name of the game here. You want faster actuation? SteelSeries is giving you faster actuation. With the launch of the Rapid Trigger feature, keys actuate at 0.54ms. SteelSeries claims this if 11 times faster than competing keyboards that use traditional mechanical switches. And that kind of speed is due to the OmniPoint 2.0 adjustable hypermagnetic switches. These are Hall Effect magnetic switches that give the user a wide range of adjustability to customize the key actuation to their specific preference.

SteelSeries is also shaking things up by increasing the adjustable range of each key switch. It used to be 0.2mm to 3.8mm. But now it’s 0.1mm to 4.0mm. And that seemingly tiny change adds more levels to the adjustment that users can make. As each switch went from 37 levels of adjustment up to 40. This means you can set your actuation to 0.1mm and have an insanely low travel distance to get the desired action from the key you’re pressing.

This update is available for the Apex Pro full-size keyboard as well as the Mini and TKL models in both wired and wireless versions. Simply plug the keyboard into your PC if it isn’t already and load up the GG software. Then head to the “engine” tab and you should see a prompt for the update next to your keyboard’s product card.
