Starfield is getting a story DLC, Shattered Space, this autumn and a new, free update that will be announced in the next few days, according to Todd Howard.

In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, with transcriptions from VGC, Bethesda director Todd Howard confirmed “Shattered Space is in the fall, but we have a big update that’s coming really soon for Starfield.”

Shattered Space was announced last year, back in June, and comes included with the proce of Starfield‘s premium editions. Players who bought those should be able to download the DLC when it launches at no extra cost, while players who only have the base game or Game Pass version will be required to pay up.

“There’s a lot of stuff… we redid the map stuff, so we have some city map stuff,” said Howard. We also know it will include “new story content, new locations, new gear, and much more”.

As for the free update, Howard said “The update that we having coming, I think it’s going to get announced in a few days this week, and then be up on Steam beta, has got some great stuff for ship building in it as well.”

The ship-building mechanics have been one of the most-used features in the game, with players recreating their favourite sci-fi interstellar crafts even before the game fully launched. From X-Wings to the Normandy and USCSS Nostromo, the possibilities seemed endless.

Bethesda promised a new update to the sci-fi game roughly every six weeks, and so far it seems to be sticking to that schedule. These free updates are first available on the Steam Beta branch and then get rolled out to console, so be sure to sign up there if you want to be the first to access new stuff.
