Spike Lee fans have been recalling a classic film of his that is “one of the best” they’ve ever seen.

In a new post on Reddit, fans have been celebrating Lee’s film 25th Hour, which was released in 2002.

Starring Edward Norton, the film was adapted by David Benioff from his 2001 debut novel and tells the story of a man’s last 24 hours of freedom as he prepares to go to prison for seven years for dealing drugs.

In the Reddit post for ‘r/movies’, a discussion was set up after a user rewatched and described the film as “phenomenal”.

They added: “I was kinda blown away. I’m a New York guy, born and raised. Haven’t lived there in years but this movie puts me right back there, early 2000 NY. It’s a crime movie, it’s a 9/11 movie, it’s a thriller in ways, it’s a father-son movie, it’s a story about fraternity, a love story. It’s got so much, and it’s written so well. The performances are great.”

The post chimed with many more users on there, who also recalled how much they loved the film.

One user wrote: “That ending stayed with me since I’ve watched it years ago. I still think about it time to time” while another added: “I was very taken with this movie through my twenties. Suggested it to everyone I met, tried to work it into conversations etc. The cast is absolutely unreal and I could watch Barry Pepper jabber in anything really. It remains a [favourite].

“Now with many younger folks born after 9/11, this is an instant one for me to bring up if they’re asking about movie suggestions to watch.”

According to a Variety report, Ice Spice has already begun shooting her scenes for the film, though details on her role are currently under wraps. The film, titled High And Low, is an upcoming English remake and reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime drama of the same name.

The original film is based on Ed McBain’s novel King’s Ransom and stars Toshiro Mifune as a wealthy man who is forced to pay the ransom money for his employee’s kidnapped son.

The remake of High And Low will be released in cinemas by A24 before heading to Apple TV+ (as reported by The Guardian), though a release date for both cinematic release and on streaming have yet to be announced.

Spike Lee’s version of High And Low will mark his fifth collaboration with Denzel Washington. Their past work together include 1990’s Mo’ Better Blues, 1992’s Malcom X, 1998’s He Got Game and 2006’s Inside Man.
