If you’re a new PS5 owner than Sony has an awesome deal for you in the form of a free game. Sony calls it the Upgrader Program and it’s a decent way to begin your game collection. It’s an especially good deal if you think about the fact that you now don’t nave to buy a game to go with the console purchase.

The PS5 is already a hefty chunk of change, and it’s not uncommon that some might buy the console and then limit themselves to free-to-play titles for a bit due to cost. Sony is making it so that doesn’t have to be the case. What’s more, is that the selection of free games is rather quite astounding. As they’re all excellent titles and some are even fairly new releases. There are some caveats to this offer though.

You have to have purchased a PS5 on or after September 23. If you purchased before then, unfortunately it seems that you aren’t eligible. If you don’t have a PS5, you need to buy one and then activate it by October 20 if you want to claim the offer. The free game also has to be activated by October 20 at 12:59pm PT.

New PS5 owners have some excellent free game options

A free game if you buy a PS5 is a great offer anyway you slice it. But Sony is doing you one better by adding in some really great options. Some perhaps even unexpected.

If you’re eligible for the offer you can choose from recent hits like God Of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West. You can also select Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, The Last of Us Part 1, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Returnal, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, or Death Stranding: Director’s Cut.

To redeem the offer, you’ll need to set up your PS5 and power it on, then go to the user account screen in settings, and activate a PSN account. Once activated, go to the other section in the same settings menu and select console sharing and offline play and enable that. Then head to the PlayStation Store to find the banner for this offer. Select your game and you’re done!
