Sony’s PS5 console sales targets for Q1 of 2023 have been met and exceeded, the company states in its latest earnings report. It’s an astounding thing to behold. It wasn’t that long ago when Sony, like many other technology companies, was facing major supply chain issues. But since launch Sony has been steadily ramping up sales and is now crushing its goals for the PS4 successor.
According to its latest report, PS5 consoles totaled sales of 6.3 million units for Q1 of 2023. That’s a big win for Sony on a few levels. For one, 6.3 million units is three times the amount of PS5 consoles the company sold in the same period just one year before. It also brings Sony to a total number of 19.1 million PS5 consoles sold for the entire fiscal year 2022. Which means it has more than surpassed its goal of 18 million that it wasn’t certain it could hit.
All in, Sony has now sold 38.4 million PS5 consoles worldwide since its launch in November of 2020. Basically, Sony is crushing its sales goals for the console. And it’s only going to go up from here the company thinks. A prospect not too unlikely as Sony declares the supply chain issues are completely over.
PS5 sales for Q1 2023 point the way
A strong ending quarter for the fiscal year 2022 is a good sign of things to come for Sony’s PS5 plans. As the company is confident it can sell even more consoles in the upcoming fiscal year.
Sony plans to sell 25 million PS5 consoles for the fiscal year 2023. And if it can reach that goal then it’ll be a monumental achievement. 25 million units sold would put the PS5 ahead of the PS4’s 20 million for its third fiscal year. It would also mark the PS5 as the only PlayStation console in history to reach that number of units sold within a single year. Which even the fabled PS2 didn’t achieve.
