Abel Tesfaye covers the Eraserhead classic “In Heaven” and dusted off his unreleased “Take Me Back to LA” during guest appearance

Producer Mike Dean celebrated his birthday Friday night at Los Angeles’ the Wiltern, and two of the artists he recently helped out in the studio — the Weeknd and Travis Scott — were in attendance to serve as onstage guests.

The Weeknd — who worked with Dean on 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness up through The Idol soundtrack — opened with an unlikely song selection, delivering a synth-laden rendition of “In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)” from the David Lynch film Eraserhead.

After that, the singer born Abel Tesfaye segued into his unreleased song “Take Me Back to LA,” which he’s teased before on social media and onstage but has not yet put out a studio version of.

Travis Scott — who enlisted Dean to produce on all of his albums, including 2023’s Utopia — next joined Dean and the Weeknd onstage to perform their collaborative single “Circus Maximus,” before Scott closed out his appearance with “Fe!n.”
