Carpenter name-drops the Grinch‘s Cindy Lou Who and asks, “Is It New Years Yet?” on the EP

Sabrina Carpenter might still be opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, but she’s personally entering her own holiday era. On Friday, the singer released her six-track EP Fruitcake, featuring five original Christmas songs — and a classic with a twist.

“Just sayin I never seen Santa Claus and Sabrina Carpenter in the same room,” joked Carpenter on Instagram, sharing the news of her EP’s release.

The singer announced the EP was coming earlier this month, sharing a photo of herself holding a fruitcake (it’s the EP’s cover art) along with the tracklisting of the project listed as “ingredients” for it. Among the tracks are songs like “Buy Me Presents,” disco-tinged “Is It New Years Yet?” and “White Xmas.”

Opening the LP is “A Nonsense Christmas,” a holiday play on her Emails I Can’t Send hit “Nonsense,” which she released last year. Julian Bunetta produced “Nonsense” and “Santa Doesn’t Know You Like I Do,” while John Ryan produced the rest of the project.

Among the songs on the album is “Cindy Lou Who,” named after the character from How The Grinch Stole Christmas. “I’m gonna puke at the thought of you kissin’/The boy who I love is now in love with you,” she sings. “Cindy Lou, who?”

Carpenter is currently on the South America leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. She’s set to open for her during shows in Rio de Janeiro this weekend and in São Paulo next weekend before returning to the U.S. to perform at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball in late November and early December.

The new holiday music comes about a month after she dropped a cover of Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” and the Halloween-themed music video for her song “Feather.” With Fruitcake, Carpenter is making sure to keep her stans fed.
