Arkane Austin has confirmed Redfall will receive one final update following the news that the studio has been shut down.

Earlier this month, Arkane Austin was one of several studios shut down by Microsoft in a shock move, with the company wanting to “further invest in Bethesda’s portfolio of blockbuster games.”

In the days that followed, it was reported that developers had been working on a new update for Redfall in the hours before the studio was closed, as well as the promised Hero DLC. Following the closure, it looked like both those projects would be shelved.

However, the official Redfall social media account has now confirmed that fans can expect one final update.

“Thank you for all your supportive messages. We are working to release our final update, Game Update 4, that brings revamped Neighbourhood and Nest systems, Single Player Pausing, Offline Mode, and more,” said the post. “We’ll provide additional details soon. Thank you all.”

Offline mode has been a highly requested feature since the “always online” game launched last year. As part of an internal memo, head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty promised that while development would stop on future Redfall updates, the game would remain online. This latest update ensures players should still be able to play Redfall, even if servers are taken down.

However, it looks like Redfall’s Hero DLC has been scrapped, despite the team aiming for a Halloween release. Booty has said the company would “make good” offers to those that had pre-purchased the DLC.

Redfall was met with negative reviews upon launch, with Xbox head Phil Spencer admitting the company had “let a lot of people down”. However, he also confirmed that Bethesda and Arkane remained “absolutely” committed to supporting Redfall going forward, and he would “totally bet on [Arkane] making another great game”.

In September, Bethesda‘s head of global publishing Pete Hines added: “We’re going to get [Redfall] to be a good game because we know, as a first-party studio, Game Pass lives forever.”

In other news, 2K Games has confirmed it is set to reveal a sequel to a “beloved” franchise at Summer Games Fest, which takes place next month.
