Red Dead Redemption made its debut on PS4 and Nintendo Switch back in August with a sorely disappointing framerate of 60 frames per second. Even on PS5 the game would run at this lower framerate despite being more than capable of running with better performance.

The good news, for PS5 players at least, is that the game now runs much smoother. A recent but quiet update from Rockstar has boosted Red Dead Redemption to run at the 60fps framerate on PS5. So players should experience cleaner gameplay and have overall smoother visuals. The update was released on Tuesday October 3 but was not really advertised by Rockstar.

Which is interesting considering this was a big pain point for some players. The studio did however put out a very brief set of patch notes that mention the smoother framerate for PS5 players. Unfortunately it doesn’t mention anything about the PS4. Which means PS4 and Switch owners will have to be happy with 30fps.

Will Red Dead Redemption on PS4 get support for a framerate of 60fps?

That doesn’t seem too likely. Given Rockstar already pushed an update that added the smoother visuals for PS5 owners. Rockstar doesn’t appear to have confirmed the PS4 is being left behind. But PS4 players shouldn’t get their hopes up. There is always the small chance though that Rockstar will come through. Especially for those on the PS4 Pro which should be handle those faster frames as well. Especially for a game that came out on PS3.

Switch owners however will have to stick with the 30fps. As the hardware probably couldn’t handle a higher framerate for this sort of game.
