Since its inception in 2019, Bouqui Glam House (BGH), a luxury fashion brand, has styled a plethora of brides and women with an appetite for high fashion in ensembles that flaunt unmissable craftsmanship while giving a nod to the distinct preference of each client.
Immersed in the vibrant tapestry of luxury fashion, the brand, orchestrated by the visionary entrepreneur Bukonla Ambali, has become synonymous with excellence in the city of Lagos––the pulsating heart of the African fashion landscape. Brides have come to trust that they can be assured of on-trend wedding dresses that not only fit their vision of perfection but are also memorable with intricate details that underscore Ambali’s mastery of fashion. Likewise, non-brides are certain of get-ups with ample character to turn heads and enough staying power to be worn through seasons.
What stands undeniable with Bouqui Glam House’s designs is how each outfit is tailored to fit the wearer like a glove, emphasizing each woman’s frame like the work of art it is. Whether maxi or mini dresses, sleeves or no sleeves, each number sits proudly on the body it was created for in such a way that embraces every unique curve.
In all, through Bukonla Ambali’s passion for fashion, and an unyielding pursuit of distinction, Bouqui Glam House proudly encapsulates and celebrates the essence of womanhood highlighted through intricate designs that delivers without fail. From ethereal evening gowns to chic cocktail dresses and enchanting bridal wear, every creation is indeed a symphony of elegance and individuality.
Although her journey began with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Agriculture, Bukonla Ambali felt a sense of dissatisfaction that led her to pursue another master’s degree in fashion. In November 2023, she obtained that degree in fashion business management from the prestigious University of Westminster, School of Arts, in London. Bukonla’s passion, determination, and unwavering dedication to her craft are truly inspiring.
We caught up with her on the sides of the W’ Fashion Week to discuss her brand and more.
Here’s our chat with Bukonla Ambali, founder of Bouqui Glam House…
What inspired the collection you showed at The W’ Fashion Week 2023?
The September edition of the Won Line Fashion Show in London was a culmination of my passion for sharing my designs on the runway. Being my first fashion show, I felt really excited. My collection was inspired by the timeless elegance found in minimalistic design elements. The concept behind my designs was to celebrate the beauty of clean lines, understated details, and a muted color palette.
The collection also celebrated the art of restraint and understatement, showcasing the power of simplicity in creating a lasting impact. By focusing on impeccable craftsmanship, high-quality fabrics, and meticulous attention to detail, I aimed to create garments that exude a sense of effortless sophistication.
The show provided a sense of fulfillment as I witnessed my designs exhibited before a sizable audience. I’m really grateful for this amazing opportunity to have my voice heard and to support and work with other talented people in the fashion industry.
What’s the biggest lesson you have learned since you started your label?
My biggest lesson since starting my own label has been the importance of perseverance and patience. While pursuing my passion for fashion, I quickly realized that building a successful label takes time, effort, and a lot of resilience.
I have learned that setbacks and challenges are inevitable in this industry. From designing collections that don’t receive the desired reaction to facing production delays or struggling to secure collaborations, there are numerous obstacles that can hinder progress. However, I have learned to view these hurdles as valuable learning opportunities.
Through perseverance, I have developed the ability to bounce back from disappointments. I have also learned to stay focused on my vision and continue pushing forward even when faced with setbacks. It is important to constantly evolve, learn from failures, and adapt to the ever-changing fashion landscape.
Ultimately, the biggest lesson I have learned is to believe in myself and my creative vision. Trusting my instincts and pursuing my unique style has allowed me to stand out in a crowded market and establish an authentic brand identity. By embracing perseverance, patience, and self-belief, I am confident that I will continue to grow as a fashion designer and achieve my goals in the industry.
Bouqui Glam House continues to inspire women across Nigeria and beyond, offering them the opportunity to feel empowered and beautiful through their choice of fashion. With Bukonla at the helm, this African-owned fashion brand is undoubtedly making its mark on the world stage.
