Scheana Shay shared an unexpected update regarding her relationship with Katie Maloney on last week’s episode of her podcast.
After experiencing many ups and downs with Katie on recent seasons of Vanderpump Rules but seemingly ending season 10 in a decent place, Scheana detailed their current status as her husband, Brock Davies, defended her against ongoing backlash over her Lake Tahoe photo with Tom Sandoval.
“Caught in a moment with a fan, it’s hard not to reflect on the duality of public life. Love and support on one side, and hurtful comments on the other — particularly about my wife. It stings, it’s personal,” Brock wrote in an Instagram Story on July 21, which included the photo in question.
“Remember this,” he continued, “Vanderpump Rules is about real people, real friendships, and real emotions spanning over 15 years. This isn’t just entertainment, it’s a part of our lives you’ve come to appreciate. But with every unkind comment, there’s a real person at the receiving end. It’s not just a fleeting thought you share; it’s harsh words we read, feel and remember.”
Earlier this week, after Scheana and other cast members, including Ally Lewber, Tom Schwartz, Lala Kent, and James Kennedy, posed for a photo with a fan at the Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, where Lisa Vanderpump is set to open a new restaurant later this year, fans accused Scheana of forgiving Sandoval for his affair with Raquel Leviss, which went on for months behind the back of Scheana’s longtime best friend, Ariana Madix. And, while Scheana denied that “all is forgiven,” fans continued to shame her for the potential reconciliation.
Following the backlash, Brock told his online audience that they should have more respect and empathy for the cast members of Vanderpump Rules.
“Ironically, many of you posting these comments would eagerly smile and ask for a picture if you met us, just like this fan did with Tom. But we’re not just here for the photo ops. We’re here living our lives, sharing our journey,” he noted. “It’s high time we promote respect and empathy, not just for the ‘characters’ you see on screen, but for the real people behind them. Let’s make this community real as the friendships you tune in for. Let’s make it better.”
He then concluded his statement with a firm warning, writing, “If you don’t get this, then feel free to say what you comment to my face…”
As for Scheana’s friendship with Katie, the Pump Rules cast member said on her podcast that she and Katie experienced a bonding moment amid an Emo Nite deejaying event with Ariana in April that brought their relationship “back together.”
“It is amazing how music and something like Emo Nite can just really reconnect people who had had a falling-out,” Scheana told her guest Dayna Kathan on the July 14 episode of Scheananigans, via Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “I love that it was able to do all of that for us.”
“We are re-getting into being friends again, and just relearning where we are in life and what we need from a friendship and all of this. And we’re in a very great place,” she continued. “We had a little dinner date just the two of us the other night, Emo Nite, [and] everything. We’re having so much fun together.”
As fans will recall, Scheana and Katie’s relationship was quite strained at the start of season 10 due to Scheana’s encouragement of a romance between Schwartz and Raquel. And, even before that, she often found herself feeling insecure about their dynamic.
“I would text her and she didn’t respond right [away], I’m like, ‘Oh my God, wait, did I say something on a podcast? Is she upset with me? Wait, hold on,’” Scheana recalled. “And I’m like wracking my brain of why isn’t she [answering me] and I’m like, ‘No, she’s just bad at responding. It’s OK, it’s not just you… I get so many scenarios in my head of why isn’t she responding? She hates me. We’re not friends again. She’s mad at me, I did something.”
Scheana then said that after working with The 27s to release an emo version of “Good as Gold,” she hopes to work with the group again and perform alongside them.
“I am the first one to say I am not a great singer, but I can scream, I can rap, I can perform and put on a good show. We’re going to get back in the studio, and that’s always been the dream. If I can be like a Gwen Stefani, Fergie [and] have all my boys behind me, how f-cking fun would that be?” she wondered.
Scheana’s also said she hopes to reunite with Katie and Ariana for another deejaying event.
“We just want to keep going. Now I’m like, ‘Do you guys want to actually take this seriously, make a DJ name for ourselves, maybe do some of the other cities?’” she said. “Because I just think that would be so fun.”
Vanderpump Rules season 11 is expected to begin airing on Bravo sometime later this year or early next year.
