Google recently rolled out a new update for the Pixel Watch app, pushing a couple of new features and some bug fixes. But more importantly, it lays the foundation for one of the most-requested features. An APK teardown of the latest version of the app reveals ongoing work on Bedtime Mode and Do Not Disturb sync for the Pixel Watch.

The Pixel Watch app is a smartphone companion for Google’s first-gen smartwatch. It allows users to set up and manage their watch, including customizing watch faces, tiles, notifications, settings, and more.

The latest update for the app (version 1.3.0.540210190) adds landscape support and the ability to change the font size for Pixel Watch. It also fixes some bugs to improve the quality of the app.

While that’s all users are getting at the moment, this update contains some in-development features that aren’t yet ready for prime time. The folks over at 9to5Google decompiled the APK files for the Pixel Watch app to discover a major new feature. They found that Google is preparing the app to allow users to sync Bedtime Mode and Do Not Disturb across their Pixel Watch and the connected smartphone.

The Pixel Watch may soon let users sync Bedtime Mode and Do Not Disturb

Text descriptions and instructions provided within the APK files state that enabling sync will “help limit interruptions” and “unify your devices to simplify your day”. If you sync Do Not Disturb and Bedtime Modes across your watch and phone, you don’t have to manage them separately. Enabling either feature on one device will also enable it on the other, which is the typical behavior of sync functions.

Of course, this will be optional. You can choose to keep separate settings for Do Not Disturb and Bedtime Modes on your phone and watch. But sync will simplify things.

No wonder Pixel Watch users have been asking for it ever since its launch. According to the publication, this sync function will be part of a new “Do Not Disturb & bedtime” section in the Pixel Watch app. This section isn’t live yet, though.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling when Google will complete the work and push this change to users. We hope it will come through a monthly update for the app rather than a quarterly feature drop. The next feature drop will arrive in September, so it’d be a long wait.
