Director Rian Johnson has confirmed a third instalment of his Knives Out franchise, titled Wake Up Dead Man.

Johnson took to his official X/Twitter account to announce the title of the film as well as its release date. The 45-second-long clip featured narration from Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc. “In the beginning, the knives came out. Then behold — the glass was shattered,” Craig said in Blanc’s signature southern drawl.

He continues: “But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed,” as an animation of a coffin is shown with the title Wake Up Dead Man appearing. The clip then shares the year 2025, signifying that the third film will be released next year.

As reported by Variety, the third film of his whodunnit series will be distributed by Netflix as part of Johnson’s $450 million two-sequel deal with the streaming platform.

“I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is,” Johnson wrote in another tweet prior to announcing the title of the upcoming film. “There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

He continued: “We’re about to go into production on the 3rd one, and I’m very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.”

Aside from sharing Craig’s return to the film, no other casting or plot details were revealed. No set date for the film’s release was shared either aside from the year.

Back in 2022, Johnson said that he will “keep making” more sequels of the whodunnit film as long Craig is on board.
