Hyper Light Breaker developer Heart Machine and publisher Gearbox have put out a new overview trailer for the game this week. And wow does it really present the game in a visually stunning way.
Hyper Light Breaker is the sequel to Hyper Light Drifter. But while there are a lot of similarities, there are more than a few differences too. Thematically the two games go hand-in-hand. Both are set in the same universe and Hyper Light Breaker takes place in the not-too-distant future. Though it’s unclear how closely the two stories will be tied together. It also features a lot of the same stylized visuals with vast sums of the landscape awash with vibrant colors.
However, Hyper Light Breaker is a game focused on co-op rogue lite adventure gameplay. With fully 3D worlds and character models, and a very different approach to combat. It’s also open world. And that’s really what this new trailer is about. Showing you an overview of the world that the game takes place in. If you were curious just how vast Hyper Light Breaker would be, this trailer should clear up any potential questions. Although it doesn’t show you a giant zoomed out world map, you do get to see plenty of the game’s different locales. And the world looks anything but small.
Hyper Light Breaker overview trailer confirms large open biomes
For a game of this scale, you’d expect to see changes in the landscape that make you feel like you’re in a very different location. And that’s what Hyper Light Breaker appears to be delivering.
From green hillsides to snowy peaks to more tropical wetlands, you’ll travel through a diverse set of biomes. There’s even a small city called The Settlement. Which we can only assume is your home base of operations for numerous things. Each biome also features global day and night cycles and weather. Which Heart Machine says changes with every playthrough. An intentional design choice to make the game feel more immersive and also make every location feel fresh as you move through them.
Outside of the biomes, you get a good look at some of the game’s other features. In the trailer (which you can watch above), you can see your character traverse large open fields on a hoverboard. As well as jump from tall heights and float safely across rivers with a glider. You get a heaping dose of combat footage too. And by the looks of it your character has a decent-sized kit of attacks using both guns and swords.
Hyper Light Breaker goes into early access sometime this year for PC. You can’t play it yet but you can wishlist it on Steam.
