MUNA‘s Naomi McPherson has landed their first acting role as Janis Ian in Jason Reitman’s forthcoming film SNL 1975.
The film centres around the first episode of Saturday Night Live, which aired in October 1975, focusing in particular on the behind-the-scenes moments before it first came to the small screen. Ian appeared on the show as one of its first musical guests, alongside Billy Preston, who will be portrayed in the film by Jon Batiste. Batiste is also set to work on the film’s score.
Other confirmed members of the cast include Nicholas Braun as Jim Henson, Kaia Gerber as Jacqueline Carlin, JK Simmons as Milton Berle, and Finn Wolfhard as an NBC Page.
The project was first announced last year with Reitman directing, producing and co-writing. While principal photography has begun, a release date for the film has not yet been confirmed.
Meanwhile, in December, MUNA teamed up with Holly Humberstone to share a re-imagined version of her song ‘Into Your Room’.
“The rumours are true! My friends and the greatest band in the world @whereismuna have jumped on a new version of ‘into your room’,” she wrote in the caption, telling fans to keep their eyes peeled for this Friday (December 1). “It’s so sick and we all love how it came out… can’t wait for ‘into your room’ with MUNA to be yours”.
“I’m obsessed with MUNA and have been wanting to work with them for ages,” Humberstone said in a statement. “I’m so thankful that I finally get to have them bring their magic to one of my songs.”
Last summer, the band joined up with Boygenius to perform renditions of ‘Salt In The Wound’ and ‘Silk Chiffon’ at their huge London Gunnersbury Park show.
