Looking for the perfect place to party, gamble, and generally enjoy the finer things in life?
Atlantic City is the Las Vegas of the East Coast, albeit on a smaller scale.
It’s just a 2-hour drive from New York, and from Philadelphia, you have just 1 hour drive time. And it is considered an incredible place to visit for fall.
It offers the same casinos, world-class shopping, and restaurant experiences as Vegas, and also boasts a renowned boardwalk.
And the best thing? Your trip will be half the price!
Why Visit Atlantic City
Atlantic City is the perfect place to visit in the fall. The temperatures are cooler and the crowd levels are much lower. So are the prices!
I love exploring new cities when it’s sweater weather outside. The sun is still shining but it never feels too warm to explore and enjoy new adventures.
You can visit the Steel Pier Amusement Park, roll the dice in the casinos, and explore the nearby Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge at any time of the year here.
But there are plenty of season-specific things to do in Atlantic City in the fall too.
I’ve already mentioned that Atlantic City is home to a whole host of world-renowned restaurants. And you can enjoy these without breaking the bank in Atlantic City Restaurant Week which runs from October 6 to October 11.
55 restaurants are taking part, offering 3 course lunch menus for $20.24 and 3 course dinner menus for $40.24.
The Atlantic City marathon takes place on October 19-20. And if you’re looking for something a little less energetic and a little more spooky then join the Monster Bash in Historic Smithville on October 26.
You can take part in the area’s largest Zombie Walk, and if you don’t have your zombie costume with you don’t worry!
They’ll be make-up artists on hand on the night to make sure you look the part.
Atlantic City As An Affordable Alternative
Visiting Atlantic City is an affordable alternative to visiting Las Vegas because the prices are cheaper on the ground.
According to Budgetyourtrip the average daily cost of a trip to Vegas is $310 per person while in Atlantic City a traveler can expect to spend just $154 per day.
Officially making Atlantic City half the price of Vegas. As long as you don’t blow your budget in the casinos, of course!
I decided to break that down and find out how much it would actually cost to spend a weekend in Atlantic City this fall.
So I started with hotels for a 2-night stay for 2 adults from October 25 to October 27.
In the 3 star Boardwalk Resorts At Atlantic Palace, which has direct access to Atlantic City beach, you would pay $318 (or $79.50 per person, per night).
If you would prefer a 4 star hotel then Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City Hotel and Casino boasts 14 restaurants, including a Gordon Ramsay steakhouse, and an adults-only tropical indoor pool with cabanas.
The 2 night stay would cost $404, which works out as $101 per person, per night.
Getting Around Atlantic City
Atlantic City is a very walkable city, especially if you stay near the boardwalk or inside one of the casino hotels.
In fact, some of the bigger casino hotels have so many facilities you don’t need to leave!
But when you do want to get out and about to see the sights, public transportation in Atlantic City is affordable too.
The city puts on a free shuttle service from the Atlantic City Rail Terminal to several locations in the casino area.
And a jitney (mini bus) ride in the city costs $3. Jitney’s operate 24/7 and are the best and most convenient form of public transportation in the city.
Alternatively, why not take a unique ride in one of Atlantic City’s rolling chairs?
The price for these depends on how far you want to travel, but trips of under 5 blocks start from $5 and a half-hour tour would cost $30.
