Like clockwork it seems, Activision has now released the season 4 roadmap for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2. And there appear to be some spicy changes that will hopefully set the community of players ablaze with excitement.

While there looks to be plenty of fun content coming up when the season goes live on June 14, some of the standout changes revolve around DMZ. Call of Duty’s new extraction shooter mode that launched alongside Modern Warfare II last year. There seems to be a love/hate split on this mode, so any changes that may improve it are for the better.

Modern Warfare season 4 roadmap reveals DMZ improvements

In addition to a new map, called ‘Vondel,’ DMZ is getting some pretty nifty enhancements. These should improve the gameplay experience. But of course, we’ll have to see how well things are implemented. First up for the DMZ changes is a new, more centralized hub for operator communications and upgrades. Activision is calling this the Forward Operating Base, and it’s a new menu system for completing objectives and earning a variety of upgrades.

There are four upgrade categories, including Stash, Weapons Locker, Bounty Board, and Communications Station. Starting with Stash, this upgrade lets you increase the size of your wallet and key stash. Weapons locker is full of upgrades for your contraband armaments. The Bounty Board meanwhile, will contain exfil, bartering recipes, and buy station discounts. And lastly the Communications Station will allow players access to urgent missions.

Best of all, Activision says these things are all passive and do not have to be equipped. Another really cool feature is the dynamic fog players can encounter on the Vondel map. This pops up during “certain inclement weather conditions” Activision says. And is designed to make players “feel more ingrained in the world of Modern Warfare II.”

Multiplayer will get 7 new maps, 6 of them at launch

A handful of new maps will be available for multiplayer at the start of the season, with a seventh map coming in the mid-season reloaded patch. There will be two maps for each of the three different multiplayer experience types. So there’s a little something for everyone.

The maps are Showdown and Kunstenaar District for the Core play modes, while Gunfight will get Mercado and Penthouse, and finally the Battle maps will be Mawizeh Marshlands and Ahkdar Village. Vondel will be the seventh map coming to the game in the mid-season and will be another Core mode map.

Expect more than a few new operators coming in season 4 too, including Nikto, Io, Ana Vega, Izanami, and Butch. And of course there’s new weapons to add to your arsenal as well. In season 4 players can unlock a new assault rifle called the Tempus Razorback, and a new SMG called the ISO 45. Season 4 Reloaded will also contain the RAID episode finale for special ops. So if you’ve been enjoying Call of Duty’s take on raids, don’t miss this one.

There’s loads of other changes coming too, and you can check them all out in the official Call of Duty blog post.
