Metal Gear fans think that the recently released Metal Gear Solid Master Collection contains hints that a Metal Gear Solid 4 remaster is on the horizon.
The Metal Gear Solid Master Collection includes remastered versions of Metal Gear and the NES version of that title, Snake’s Revenge, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid and its virtual reality missions, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Konami said that this would be the first of few volumes that would then comprise the Master Collection as a whole. As a result, the apparent discovery of code from the Master Collection‘s launcher points toward what games would be next.
Spotted by IGN, Reddit user Timo653 shared screenshots of code that were allegedly lifted from the launcher. In these images, references to Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 5 were found.
IGN examined the launcher itself and corroborated Reddit user Timo653’s claims. As Metal Gear Solid 4 is only playable on the PS3, and the Master Collection is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, this was cause for a lot of conversation in the game’s community.
“For nostalgia, MGS3 is my favourite but for gameplay, story, impact, multiplayer, MGS4 is probably my favourite game of all time,” shared one fan.
There is additional debate on the potential presence or absence of multiplayer in a remastered Metal Gear Solid 4, with plenty of players saying that this was one of the highlights of the original.
At time of writing, there has been no acknowledgement from Konami about this possible leak, meaning the discovery must be taken with a pinch of salt for now.
In other gaming news, the ex-president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America has shared that acquisitions could lead to a loss of creativity in the industry.
