African fashion continues to see a rebirth of classic styles with more modern tweaks. The fusion of Western and African fashion has become a global indulgence. This claim is evident on the runways, high fashion streets, and on celebrities, both on and off the glamorous carpets. Traditional prints dance with modish textures to render rich cultural interpretations. Nowhere is this seen more clearly than on the Lagos streets, that are notorious for submitting elevated fits practical enough to match the city’s bustling atmosphere.

Irrespective of the sartorial theme or occasion, Lagos fashion girls agree on one thing: to eat and leave no crumbs. Every now and then, a photo surfaces on the internet with a Lasgidi style star doing justice to hard slay. From intriguing outfits to swoon-worthy hairstyles, and upbeat makeup looks, the girls fearlessly make a go at fashion in a bid to create solid branding. This conveys a subtle message of evolving to stay relevant without losing your touch. Fashion doesn’t remain static, and neither should you.

Green must be the color made for talented singer Omawunmi. The hue does her complexion wonders. For the Nigerian Idol’s second live eviction show, she rocked a floor-length Vivid Oke kimono over a Hariike Styles sleeveless floral print number. She completed the look with a green headscarf and gold accessories. This combination sheds light on the beautiful merger of gold and green.

There’s always an animal print to take precedence every season. Not long ago, zebra prints made their marks on everything fashion, but this year, leopard prints stay winning. In whatever form these prints choose to channel their expressions, this 2024 rendition is as nostalgic as it is contemporary. Beverly Naya rode on the wave of this revival in a leopard print midi dress with asymmetric sleeves, styled with simple sandal heels. The simplistic sophistication of this can be credited to the lightweight frock and perhaps, her lovely natural curls.

Everything about this look is trendy. From the SonAmie mini balloon skirt to the lacy stockings with bow details, and the layered double crop, the ensemble represents modern fashion with its unique spin. Former BBNaija star Kim Oprah punched up the look with clear sunglasses and a yellow bag to add color to the subtly toned rendering. With bows, everything looks more feminine, and geeky glasses offer their support.

Popularly known as Saskay, the ex-BB Naija housemate attended the Itel RS4 City Tour Grand Finale in sporty denim attire. She wore an oversized jersey on breezy jeans that boasted athletic stripes and finished the look with white pumps for a girly flair. The heeled shoes added a splash of sass to the fit and did little against the outfit’s aim at comfort.

#5. Tolu Bally

Nigerian designer Tolu Bally’s fashion card never declines. She’s the gift that keeps giving. Heading out for a business lunch date, the baddie slipped into a mini print dress with a side slit paired with a rosette-adorned jacket that billowed in the wind. While the dress worked as a stand-alone piece, the statement outerwear and serpent strappy heels injected finesse to a confident strut.

Someone said that the perfect edgy denim representation doesn’t exist. Please, cue in Beauty Tukura’s dual-toned denim rendering for a contrary result. Beauty, true to her name, showed up more beautiful than ever in Fruché bottoms styled with a bralette and black trench coat. The high-waisted distressed jeans were the star of this show. Once you opt for killer denim coordinates, it eases off the headache of styling. This can be worn with numerous tops and still yield excellent results. Moral of the story? Consider statement denim pieces that speak fluently in slay.

#7. Mimi Yina

While the maximalists have long made peace with shimmers as a major part of their ensembles, the minimalists are only catching up. Sparkles are officially everywhere this season. It’s normal to bump into a sequined dress or embellished purse at a party, but designer Mimi Yina explored something less conventional: “agbada.” Agbada has been a long-standing staple in African menswear, but in recent years, androgynous concepts extended this outfit to everyone.

Since then, women have added their spin past previously unimaginable borders. This time, Mimi Yina, known by her business name MedlinBoss, added sparkle to the traditional outfit by rocking it with a white collared shirt and shimmering champagne pants. Even with the fit already screaming luxury, she applied more pressure with accessories: a hat, bold sunglasses, a quilt mini bag, and gold earrings.
