Jamaica is experiencing a “boom” in summer tourism. According to officials, this is the busiest summer season the island has ever experienced.
In 2023, the island has already recorded more than 2 million stopover and cruise passengers combined, helped by a spike in the summer months.
“Already before even completing the first six months of this year we have already received a combined 2 million stopover and cruise visitors with record earnings of US$2 billion, a whopping 18% above the 2019 earnings for the same time period. It should be no surprise then that Jamaica is bracing for the best summer tourist season ever,” said Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett.
Last year, Jamaica welcomed a total of 3.3 million cruise and overnight guests. These numbers resulted in $3.7 billion in tourism revenue.
According to analytics firm ForwardKeys, airline ticket bookings are up 33% so far this summer, compared to the exceptionally successful summer of 2022.
For this summer, the island has reserved 1.4 million airline seats, of which 1.2 million are from the American market.
That is a 16 percent increase above the island’s previous summer record set in 2019.
