TikTok is an extremely popular app, having been downloaded more than 2 billion times across the Google Play Store and the iOS app store. Tons of people use it and, thus, you’re liable to get a ton of notifications from this app. However, there are times when you would want to disable all the notifications coming from TikTok.

Well, if you want to do this, or at least refine your notification experience, here’s a quick and simple guide to doing so. We’ll go over how to tailor your TikTok notifications or disable them altogether. Also, if you don’t want to merely disable ads but delete your TikTok account, we have a guide to do that here.

How to disable TikTok notifications

So, disabling TikTok notifications may vary depending on the operating system that you’re running. For this example, we’ll be using a Pixel 6 running on Android 13. The experience will be similar across most Android phones running relatively modern versions of Android.

First things first, find The TikTok app on your home screen. Hold your finger down on the app icon until you see a little drop-down menu appear. Tap on the app info button (the “i” inside the circle) and tap on the notification button up top of the resulting page.

When you do that, right under the app’s name, you’ll see the All TikTok Notifications toggle. Simply flip that toggle off, and you will not receive any notifications from the app.

Tailoring your TikTok notifications

So, you want to get rid of some of the notifications that you get but not all of them. Well, there’s a way to do that. You’re able to pick and choose which types of notifications you receive on the app, and this gives you the ability to really suit the notifications to your needs.

Now, you can see several different toggles under the notifications page and TikTok’s app info. You can look through those toggles and flip off the ones that you don’t want to receive. However, these are not all of the notification options that you have. In order to see all of them, you’ll have to go to The TikTok app itself.

Go into TikTok and go to your profile page. There, tap on the hamburger-style menu button on the top right of the screen. You’ll see a little pop-up appear on the bottom of the screen. Select the Settings and Privacy button.

There, under the second subsection of settings, you should see a Notifications button. Tap on it, and you will see a plethora of different settings and toggles that you can change. Read through all of the sections, and see which kinds of notifications you want to receive and which ones you want to block.

Types of notifications

As you can see, there are different types of notifications for many different types of instances, and they’re separated into seven subsections. The first section is full of notifications that involve interactions with your posts. This includes reposts, new followers, comments, likes, Etc.

The next section is The TikTok Now section, and these are general notifications from the app to keep you engaged. Next, you can adjust the notifications for your direct messages. The following section deals with notifications about video suggestions. These are recommended videos that the app thinks you’ll like

Next, you’re able to adjust the notifications for live streams that people host. That’s followed by the option to toggle notifications for your weekly screen time stats. The last section is full of miscellaneous settings which also include your email notifications.

It seems like a lot to take in, but once you start digging into your notification settings and really paying attention to the types of notifications you want to get, it will really boost your TikTok experience.

Info on the new monetization platform

If you’re a Creator on TikTok, then the company has a neat tool to help you earn some cash for your video making. The company introduced a revamped monetization program for creators, and it hopes that this will be better than the previous Creator fund.

If you want your videos to be monetized, you will need to be at least 18 years of age. At the time of writing this, only creators in the US can sign up for this program. It will be rolling out to other markets in the future.

Now, there are more hurdles to jump if you want to be monetized. For starters, you need to have at least 10,000 followers on your account. Also, you’ll need to have pulled in at least 100,000 views on your videos over the past 30 days. That sounds like a lot, and it definitely is if you’re starting out. However, more established content creators should have no problem clearing that.

The tough qualification

The next qualification is a bit less objective. You’ll need to make sure that your videos are quality videos. There’s no guideline that says what is and isn’t a quality video. However, simply re-uploading a video that someone else created will definitely break that Rule.

One thing to note is that in order for your video to be considered, it needs to be at least one minute long. This means that content creators are going to have to focus more on making longer content than shorter content. This is pretty ironic as TikTok really made a name for itself for the short form of content that people post.

Many TikToks are not even 20 seconds long. So, pushing everyone to make minute-long TikToks in order to make money will definitely cause a shift in the kind of content that people create.
