The song marks Halle’s first solo single since debuting with “Angel” last August

Halle Bailey is back with her second solo single, the swelling, sentimental “In Your Hands,” which she accompanied with a music video that features her months-old son Halo.

“In Your Hands” comes over seven months after Halle released her debut solo single “Angel” last August, and follows her starring role in last year’s Little Mermaid live action adaptation, and her supporting role as Nettie Harris in Last November’s The Color Purple.

Prior to the song’s release, Halle spoke about the song on Instagram on Thursday, saying it was simultaneously about romantic love for a partner as well as the motherly love she has for her son who was born in early January. She originally planned for “In Your Hands” to be an interlude on her upcoming album, but said those around her who listened to the track encouraged her to make it a full song.

“What’s beautiful about this song is the hook is based off of being in love, being in a relationship and knowing that your future with this person is beautiful and also knowing your worth,” Halle said. “But the beautiful thing as well, the verses I wrote, I wrote when I was pregnant. The verses almost are to Halo, I felt I was singing to him about how I’m always going to be here for him and my journey as his mother. it made me really, really happy.”
