“Whilst in Aberdeen, I am staying in an old 1800’s hotel. I am in the Most Haunted room of it – which was vacated this morning by one of our producers,” he wrote. “Odd electrical and physical occurrences scared her into leaving asap. Stay tuned – if anything happens I will report.”

He added: “I always stay in ‘the most haunted rooms’ but only once did I experience anything supernatural – the rest of the time: nothing. I have high hopes.”

In his latest update, the director said he was having to sleep in different room due to the “oppressive atmosphere”, adding that “something” was with him in his previous room.

“I can only say: nothing has happened yet, but the atmosphere in the room is oppressive and I am not gonna spend much more time there. It may be suggestion, but at this point I kept it but am sleeping in another room – I need 6 hours of sleep to have a good shooting day.

“I’m stopping there early and late in the day – but something is in that room with me… If anything happens or nothing does expect one or two more updates.”

Filming on Frankenstein, which is being produced by Netflix, began back in February. It will be the Mexican director’s first feature film since 2022’s Pinocchio, and his thirteenth directorial feature overall. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for 2017’s The Shape of Water, which also picked up Best Picture.

Back in October, del Toro opened up about the Star Wars film that he was once hoping to make, confirming that he had been in line to direct an entry in the series. His entry, he revealed, was meant to focus on Jabba The Hutt, but the project eventually fell through.

“We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 screenplays that goes away,” he said. “Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, ‘Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.’”
