Don’t even waste your time trying to compete with her: Beyoncé is 2023’s Mother of the Year. Grindr surveyed more than 10,000 queer people for their yearly “Unwrapped Report,” which detailed the app’s users’ opinions on key pop culture moments — and Rolling Stone can exclusively share what the gays had to say about music in 2023.

When asked to choose their Mother of the Year, the Renaissance superstar landed at No. 1. Following closely behind were Taylor Swift in second place, Dolly Parton in third, Kylie Minogue in fourth, and Madonna at No. 5. In case you were wondering, Urban Dictionary defines “mother” as “a woman who’s iconic and constantly serves cunt.” And for Gen Z, “serves cunt” means “Bold. To the point. And overall extravagant.”

“Beyoncé gave us everything on her ballroom culture-inspired Renaissance tour and film, making her the undisputed mother of the year — the inspirational queen who just gets us,” Tristan Pineiro, VP of brand marketing at Grindr, tells Rolling Stone.

It was a big year in music for all five ranked Mothers: Beyoncé had the iconic Renaissance tour, Swift gagged everyone with the Eras Tour, Ms. Parton collaborated with literally everyone on her new album, Minogue had a major comeback with “Padam Padam,” and Madonna has dancers in jockstraps for Celebration Tour.

It’s no surprise: Minogue topped (no pun intended) the list for Song of the Year thanks to the campy “Padam Padam,” which blessed gay clubs across the country. “Flowers” by pansexual goddess Miley Cyrus landed at No. 2, followed by twink-in-chief Troye Sivan’s “Rush.” In fourth was “Kill Bill” by SZA, and in fifth was “Karma” by Taylor Swift, but the version with Ice Spice.

The gays surveyed by Grindr also ranked the Biggest Serves of 2023, and once again, Queen Bey had the No. 1 slot. The serve in question? All of her outfits on the Renaissance tour.

“The queer community has always had its finger on the pulse of pop culture, and it’s always so much fun to see our users’ hot takes on the year via Unwrapped,” Pineiro added.

“Britney’s Dance With Knives” landed at No. 2 on the list of serves, and “The Met Gala Cockroach” strutted in at No. 5. Also on the list was Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance at No. 3, and Taylor Swift’s stage dive during the Eras Tour in fourth.

Grindr will release its Unwrapped data about its users’ habits on Tuesday , including its sex and relationships data. Their reports include a breakdown of which country has the most tops, bottoms, and active users.
