The Google Weather Service got a visual overhaul fairly recently, but it didn’t get the Material You design language. Now, that’s about to change. According to 9To5Google, the Google Weather Service is getting a much-needed visual change.
The Google Weather Service has been a quick way to get a glimpse of your local weather. It shows you the temperature, forecast, and other useful information to know whether or not you should pack an umbrella for your trip.
While a bunch of other Google services have gotten Material You, this one has been left in the dust. Now, two years after Google introduced Material You, it’s finally getting a much-needed overhaul.
The Google Weather Service is getting Material You
This is a pretty big redesign, and it goes really deep into the app’s presentation. Instead of the three-tab view that we currently have, Google Weather will show you the information and a scrollable feed. Currently, there is a Today, Tomorrow, and 10 Days tab.
However, after the redesign, the tabs will go away. Up top, there will be a search bar with your current location in it. Under that, you’ll see the current temperature accompanied by the high and low for that day, the condition, and the feels-like temperature.
Immediately under that, you’ll see an illustration with the hourly forecast. Next, you will see the 10-day forecast with the conditions and the high and low temperatures.
The overall look is a lot more Material You-inspired with the search bar being a large pill shape rather than a rectangle and the hourly forecast being housed in a large bubbly rounded rectangle. The days in the 10-day forecast are also housed in rounded rectangles, but they’re a little less rounded than the hourly forecast.
At this point, we’re not sure if this service will comply with the Dynamic Color you have assigned to your interface. The text seems to have a slightly bluish tint to them, so it’s possible that it will. We’re not sure when Google plans on rolling out this update, but it could be soon.
