Google has plenty to say during this year’s Google I/O, and one of the first things the company’s CEO talked about is Gmail. Sundar Pichai announced the ‘Help me write’ feature that is coming to Gmail.

‘Help me write’ supercharges Gmail, bringing more AI prowess to the service

What is ‘Help me write’ exactly? Well, it’s basically your personal AI sidekick inside Gmail. It’ll roll out “soon” as part of Google’s Workspace updates. It’ll essentially help you write out an entire email.

This can be helpful if you don’t want to do it yourself, or if you simply want it to look more professional. In the example Google offered, a person is asking for a full refund for a canceled flight.

Well, Gmail handled the entire email on its own, with help from ‘Help me write’. In fact, you can even request a more elaborate email, if you want. In the example, Google showed, everything looked very professional, of course.

This can be useful in a number of situations, of course. It can be a great tool for such requests, or perhaps scheduling a doctor’s appointment, which is another example for the usage of this feature.

Google also added that AI-powered features in Google Workspace have been used over 180 billion times in the past year. As some of you may remember, Google launched Smart Reply back in 2017, after which ‘Smart Compose’ followed.

Gmail is easily the most recognizable email domain out there, and many people around the world use Google’s web client and app. We have a feeling more and more such AI features will be coming down the line. This is logical considering what has been going on thus far, and the latest AI push Microsoft and Google have been leading.
