Several messaging platforms support emoji reactions, and we’re even seeing this in email clients like Microsoft Outlook. Well, not to be left behind, Gmail is now preparing to launch emoji reactions. This could start testing among a limited crowd of people at first.
It’s always an awkward situation when you receive a “Thank you” email from a client. Do you reply with an additional (yet gratuitous) “You’re welcome!” reply or just leave it be? You don’t want to add another email to their inbox for just a quick message, however, you don’t want to seem like you’re ignoring the client.
This is something that Gmail emoji reactions could fix
According to multiple sources including TheSPAndroid and AssembleDebug (via 9To5google), Gmail is preparing this new feature, but it might not be out in circulation just yet. Strings in the Android app say things like “you’re among the first Gmail users to get an emoji reaction. Soon you’ll be able to send emoji reactions yourself”.
This means that Google plans on testing this feature on a limited selection of users before pushing it to the public. As such, you’ll want to take this news with a grain of salt. We don’t know if Google will officially launch this feature.
At this point, it’s hard to say how Google is going to handle this feature. In the case of Microsoft Outlook, if someone uses an emoji reaction, you’ll just see the little emoji on the email itself. The user won’t be notified of the emoji. This is great for people who don’t want to have their inboxes full of notifications. They only need to check the email to see if there’s an emoji of acknowledgement.
So, it might be a good idea for Google to do this. We’ll just need to wait and see what the company has in store for this feature.
