Genshin Impact is comping up on its latest major update, v4.0, and in it players will finally be able to travel to the game’s latest nation. Fontaine. This will be the fifth major nation in the game. Following Mondstadt and Liyue at launch, then Inazuma and Sumeru in subsequent major updates. It also leaves two major nations remaining out of the seven total that HoYoverse had planned to add into the game. The last two being Natlan and Snezhnaya.
Like those two remaining nations, Fontaine has been in the game in some form all this time. Players couldn’t travel to it and it wasn’t part of explorable content. But they may have met characters during their adventure that are from there. And at the very least Fontaine and the other nations have been included in Genshin Impact’s lore.
Now however, players will get their first official taste of Fontaine, the nation of Justice, and experience its notoriety as a hub of culture and art. As this is a massive new update though, going to Fontaine is just the beginning of new playable content.
Genshin Impact v4.0 introduces new playable characters, bosses and more
There’s a lot of great content coming in v.40 for Genshin Impact players. As always, this includes new playable characters which are a core part of the game. As an RPG with gacha elements, players can make up their teams with choice from a rather wide variety of characters. And v.40 is adding three new ones to acquire.
Also worth noting is that these are simply the first three characters. More will eventually be added throughout future updates. For v4.0, players will be able to pick up 5-star Pyro archer Lyney, 4-star Anemo sword user Lynette, and 4-star Cryo Claymore user Freminet. Not all of them will be available right away though. HoYoverse says Lyney and Lynette will be available in the early half of the update alongside the rerun of Yelan. While Freminet will be available in the later half with reruns of Zhongli and Tartaglia.
V.40 will also bring in other new features like diving underwater in certain regions of Fontaine, more main story quests, more world exploration and world quests, and a ton of other stuff. Genshin Impact v4.0 officially launches on August 16, but you can preload the data now. If you haven’t played Genshin Impact yet, you can pick it up in the Play Store.
