According to a new report, a Game of Thrones massively multiplayer online (MMO) game is in development and it’s set in the frigid North, featuring iconic locations such as Winterfell and The Wall.
As reported by The Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligence, (via Eurogamer) Nexon, which published The Finals and Kartrider, is behind a new Game of Thrones MMO. The report states that the game will be set in the North sometime between the show’s fourth and fifth seasons, so spoilers ahead.
Roose Bolton is Warden of the North, and Jon and Sam are still up at The Wall. Players will be able to meet these iconic characters, but, unfortunately, the original cast won’t be returning for voice acting. RI claims this game will have a new voice cast.
It is also reported that players can choose between controlling two characters, and whichever one isn’t picked will still appear in the online story somehow. The site didn’t share much on who the protagonist is, but it claims “it is a new character and they’ll be running around solving problems.” There is also no word on when this potential MMO is set to launch, so don’t hold your breath in anticipation just yet.
The time period the MMO is supposedly set in works very well for a Game of Thrones story. It’s a pivotal moment where the balance of power is incredibly delicate, so a player-character could drastically change the course of history. It would be an interesting direction to take, allowing fans to see other avenues for the fate of Westeros.
However, it’s worth taking all of this with a grain of salt as nothing has been confirmed officially.
These rumours come as Jon Snow himself, Kit Harrington, recently confirmed a sequel spin-off starring the King in the North had been scrapped.
