Despite a successful beta, 11 Bit Studios has confirmed that the launch of Frostpunk 2 will be delayed from summer 2024.

Frostpunk 2 had been due for release July 25 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Game Pass but developers have now confirmed that the launch has been pushed back by several months. “We know that this is not the news you wanted to hear,“ wrote 11 Bit Studios on social media. “Our decision comes from a place of wanting to create the best game possible for you.”

“Just over two months ago, you had the chance to play the Beta, and we greatly appreciate the feedback you shared with us,” the statement continued. “Your observations, along with the existing backlog of features that we were already working on, made us realise that we can prioritise things better to guarantee you have the best possible experience at launch.”

“To do it right, we need more time to finish the development of Frostpunk 2. That’s why we made the difficult decision to postpone its release to September 20th, 2024,” they added.

However, the postponed launch means developers will have time to add additional features that players “deserve to see in-game from day one, not in a patch added after the release.”

These include new additions to the game mechanics, extensive UI & UX enhancement and a new city feature called Zoom Stories which are available in specific city parts and allow players to watch the day-to-day life of their citizens.

“It’s reading all of your observations that made us realise we can do even better and push ourselves even harder,” added 11 Bit Studios.

Originally announced in 2021, the sequel to the original city-building survival game is set 30 years after the apocalyptic blizzard devastated Earth. In Frostpunk 2, players will take on the role of leader in a resource-hungry metropolis, where the expansion and search for new sources of power is an unavoidable reality.

In other news Borderlands 3, the chaotic, hilarious co-op looter shooter, is coming to PlayStation Plus next month.
