Final Fantasy XIV is finally coming to Xbox after nearly a decade of players on the console platform asking for its release. The game’s producer and director Naoki Yoshida formally announced the news during the 2023 Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest. He was joined on-stage towards the end of the presentation by Xbox CEO Phil Spencer to announce the news to fans.
Wildly popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV has been limited to the PlayStation and PC platforms since its initial release. And with each new expansion Xbox players have wondered whether or not they would be included. After almost ten years and four expansions beyond the base game, it was beginning to look like it might never happen. However, Xbox players are finally going to get a version of the game.
That being said, the release isn’t just around the corner. In fact it’s further off than you might expect. Still, the positive side of things is that the game is officially coming. And that’s a good thing for all involved. Fans of the game on PC and PS5/PS4 will have more people to play with. And for players on Xbox, they get to enjoy one of the best games out there.
Final Fantasy XIV comes to Xbox in 2024
No exact date was announced, but it’s guaranteed to come out before the release of the new expansion. Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (v7.0) will release in the Summer of 2024. For Xbox players, there will be a closed beta during patch 6.5x of the game, and the official Xbox release is scheduled for sometime in the Spring of 2024. So there could be at least a month before official 7.0 launch.
In addition to the Xbox announcement, Yoshida and Spencer also announced the experience players can expect. The game will be available for Xbox Series X|S, and support 4K on Series X with faster loading times on both consoles. It will also be a digital-only release just like it is for PC and PS5/PS4. Yoshida and Spencer also confirmed that the Xbox version will support cross-play.
To top everything off, the expanded free trial of the game will be coming to Xbox too. The free trial now includes the base game and all of the content through the Stormblood expansion and up to level 70 on your character. So there is a TON of content Xbox players will get to check out for free. This is before even buying the game mind you.
