It’s been nearly two years since Google unveiled Material You, and the company is still updating its apps to match its dream aesthetic. The company already updated the Files by Google app with a welcome redesign, but the company isn’t finished yet. According to Android Police, there’s another redesign of the app that makes it look even better.

The Files by Google app previously did look nice, but the overall design was still stuck in the past. Sure, there were a few elements that reflected Material You, but the overall aesthetic remained flat. This new redesign brings more of what makes Material You stand out and applies it to the interface.

Files by Google gets a welcome redesign

This redesign took most of the listed elements and gave them all Material You rounded rectangular buttons. In the older aesthetic, you would see your recent files in rounded squares at the top.

They would be followed by a list of items such as your downloads, images, videos, audio, documents, and apps. You’ll also see your storage devices listed with your favorites and safe folder inside large squares.

The new design takes all of the listed items and puts them into a large grid under your recent files. So, the categories will be in a 2×3 grid, and your Safe Folder, Favorites, and Storage Devices will reside below. The latter four items are not in a grid, but they are still held in large bubbly buttons.

Another major change has to do with the search function. Rather than being a small magnifying glass icon in the corner, there will be an actual search bar at the top. When you tap on the search bar, it will still take you to a dedicated search page with the chips at the top to help refine your search.

The Files by Google redesign does a lot better at keeping with the color scheme you selected for your phone. You’ll see the background take on the general color of your theme, and the buttons will be a lighter shade of the color (darker if you’re in dark mode).

Overall, this is a nice change of pace for the app, and if you want to see it, make sure your app is fully updated. If you still don’t see it, you may just want to wait a couple of days
