In response to claims that EA Motive shelved a Dead Space 2 remake due to poor sales of the first remake, EA has issued a denial.

In a statement given to IGN, an EA spokesperson commented, “We don’t normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story.”

The original news was that EA Motive had shelved a Dead Space 2 remake due to poor sales of the Dead Space remake. However, IGN and Bloomberg have both reported that this is false. The apparently false news was first reported on Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings.

Reportedly, more ideas were floating around in zero gravity for Dead Space, but these plans were never officially greenlit. Bloomberg sources reported, ‘a small team at the Electronic Arts subsidiary Motive spent a few months conceiving ideas for a new entry in the series’.

That team has apparently been working on other ideas, while the rest of the developers of the Dead Space remake are now on other projects.

EA Motive is working on an upcoming Iron Man game as well as EA’s Battlefield franchise. Motive will be joining several other studios such as DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect in ‘building a Battlefield universe across connected multiplayer experiences and single-player.’

Unfortunately, while the rumours that EA cancelled a Dead Space 2 remake are untrue, the series is on ice, both Bloomberg and IGN report. This means you should not expect nay news about a reboot, remake, or sequel to the horror series any time soon.

Motive is still working hard on Iron Man, it claims, so hopefully we can learn more about the game soon.
