Sure, we all know what wardrobe essentials for work professional women are supposed to have in their closets, but if you’re buying one for the first time or replacing one you’ve worn into the ground, it can be a pain to find exactly the right incarnation in stores. In “The Hunt,” we search the stores for a basic item that every woman should have.
Spring is a great time to refresh your work wardrobe by adding a few new blouses or tops — I’ve always been a fan of getting some bright white blouses for spring, but there are a TON of beautiful colors and patterns out this year also.
Trends I’m noticing this year: ruffled collars, boxy fits that end at the hip, and a lot of very relaxed tops in a linen or gauze. Which trends are you liking, ladies? What dress shirts are you buying lately — and which ones are becoming MVPs for your work outfits?

Trendy, Cute Women’s Dress Shirts for Spring 2025
Ann Taylor
Ann Taylor has a number of tops with this ruffled collar and sleeve detail, and I really like them. I think the ruffled collar would be cute beneath a sweater, blazer, or by itself. The blouses range from $26 to $62 depending on color and print.
Two really similar tops: this ruffled collar top from CeCe on sale at Nordstrom, mostly in solid jewel tones, and this ruffled collar blouse ($215!) from Finley, available in black and white.
Bl-nk
Bl-nk has had a version of this top for several years now, and I can say that because I think I’ve drooled over it for several years now. They currently have seven prints in stock at Anthropologie right now, available in classic, petite, and plus sizes. It’s definitely on the more relaxed side, but I think it’s so pretty, and I think could be layered easily beneath a sweater or blazer.
The blouse is $108 at Anthropologie, and you can find older versions on Poshmark.
Tuckernuck
This stand collar blouse has caught my eye a few times at Tuckernuck — it looks crisp yet chic. I feel like it’s a good length, also — not too long or too short.
The top is $128, available in four colors in sizes XXS-XXXL.

Everlane
Everlane’s washable silk blouses have been hits with the readers basically since Everlane opened, and I like this newer, looser, boxier version — it looks laid back and cool.
The silk top comes in six colors, sizes 00-16, for $140.
A similar boxy top: this Veronica Beard number ($348). (There is also this fabulous pink-on-pink number from Natalie Martin Collection, but I think I’m more in love with the fabric.)
Frank & Eileen
For a breezy, relaxed vibe, this Frank & Eileen shirt keeps catching my eye, maybe because they style so many other things in their catalog with it. It comes in more than 50 colorways, in 13 different fabrics, for $148-$248.
The pictured one is their “blue floral” in their Italian classic linen.
Another great linen top: this colorful one from Boden ($135).
L’Agence
For truly beautiful blouses, L’Agence’s silk classic one (the Dani) is a ringer — I love this dark, moody floral one, but they have a bunch of colors and prints. It’s $390 at Nordstrom.
Another great option: this Alice & Olivia floral silk, marked down to $245, as well as this pretty floral linen top from Apiece Apart ($285).
