Christine and the Queens is done with touring for the remainder of the year. On Sunday evening, an official statement issued from the French pop artist’s account revealed that he would be pulling off the road after developing an illness.

“Red (aka Christine and the Queens) was taken ill today and on advice of doctors forced to make the difficult decision to cancel all remaining tour dates for 2023,” the statement read. The artist, who also goes by Chris and performs in character as “Redcar,” was scheduled to perform seven more shows in North America in October before heading to Europe in mid-November.

Refunds are available at the point of purchase, according to the issued statement.

Christine and the Queens has spent the majority of this year building out the world around his latest project, Paranoie, Angels, True Love, a three-act pop opera narrated by Madonna. “I almost put myself in self-hypnosis,” he told Rolling Stone about creating the record. “I was interested in moments of surrender, where the work seemed to be done through the artist. I feel like the quest for this album was to get inside of the music.”

He added: “I feel like I’m going to be less meta about my gender, and just own it. I want actually to become a great producer, great poet, insane performer, without breaking too much of my body — because I already broke my leg, and it hurt … When I was young, I was very meticulous about my singing, very terrified of pushing my voice. I was unhappy, and it was just an expression of my tension. Now I’m just going high, low, and strong, and it’s a galloping horse. It feels good. It feels good to sing, being yourself.”
