Chris Hemsworth made a surprise appearance at an Ed Sheeran concert in Romania as guest drummer. See footage from the night below.
Yesterday (August 24), Sheeran played to a 70,000-strong crowd at The National Arena, and the Avengers actor’s appearance was planned since last December, as he reveals in a video shared on Instagram.
Hemsworth requested over email to perform drums as part of his show Limitless With Chris Hemsworth, which is currently shooting its second season. The show deals with Hemsworth trying out new experiences.
During its first season, it was revealed through genetic tests that the actor possesses a genetic disposition for Alzheimer’s disease – this has since fuelled the show’s premise in an effort to raise awareness for the condition.
Hemsworth learned to play the drums leading up to the concert date. “I’ve been thinking about it a lot,” he says, tongue-in-cheek, to Sheeran in the video. The duo then performed ‘Thinking Out Loud’ for the Bucharest crowd.
After the concert, Sheeran embraced Hemsworth and lauded his contribution for the night – he also presents the actor with an award for “drumming excellence”.
Sheeran is currently wrapping up his last dates for 2024, culminating in a headlining set at Rock in Rio in Brazil next month. The singer-songwriter will then embark on his ‘Mathematics’ tour in Europe next summer.
Last May, Hemsworth reflected on the public response to his health update, and he didn’t mince his words.
“It really kind of pissed me off because it felt like I had been vulnerable with something personal and shared this,” he said. “No matter how much I said ‘This is not a death sentence,’ the story became that I have dementia and I’m reconsidering life and retiring and so on.”
Hemsworth then recalled seeing a witty comment online related to the news of his predisposition: “I did read a really funny comment at the bottom of one article: ‘I hope Chris forgets he’s retiring and comes back.’” Later that month, Hemsworth received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
