Chris Hemsworth has addressed whether he’ll be involved in the upcoming Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie.

A crossover between Hasbro’s two major toy lines was teased in the final scene of Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, where the Autobots were introduced to the special-forces organisation.

In May, it was announced that the Thor actor was in talks to star in the crossover movie, although his casting was not officially confirmed.

Appearing at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 on Thursday (July 25) – while promoting the new animation Transformers One, in which he voices a young Optimus Prime – Hemsworth addressed the speculation about his possible involvement in the crossover film.

“Look, I love the entire world and what that universe has to offer and the sort of potential to where you can take it creatively and the different characters you can explore,” Hemsworth told ET, before adding that “nothing official” has been decided.

“There were sort of conversations and there were a few ideas presented and we’re, you know, in discussions about it,” he continued. “So we’ll see what happens. But it all comes down to who the filmmaker is and if there’s a great script.”

“[Producer] Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who has been sort of at the helm of these films for so many years, is a dear friend of mine and I’ve spoken a lot to him about it,” he added. “So yeah, it’d be great if something comes together.”

Plot details for the crossover film have not yet been revealed, but it’s possible that the story could take inspiration from the 1980s Marvel comic, which famously saw G.I. Joe and the Transformers cross paths for the first time.

During his chat with ET, Hemsworth also spoke about returning to Comic-Con for the first time since promoting Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.

“It’s amazing! I haven’t been here probably since [Thor: Ragnarok], so like [seven] years, and it brings back all the memories of you know 10 or 11 years ago when I first came here,” he said. “Every time, you’re nervous, there’s a lot of anticipation, a lot of excitement, and to have that kind of response is just brilliant.”

“And the fans are something else here, it’s crazy,” Hemsworth added, explaining that he’s already seen a few cosplayers dressed in elaborate Thor costumes. “Even in the heat! I was like, ‘That’s impressive.’ I know what that costume feels like in the heat. I’ve shot in Atlanta in the middle of summer with it on – it’s not fun.”

Earlier this month, fellow Marvel and Transformers One star Scarlett Johansson revealed that the Avengers cast members regularly discuss “terrible reviews” in their WhatsApp group.

Transformers One, which also stars Brian Tyree Henry, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm, arrives in cinemas on October 11.
