Chloë Sevigny has revealed that she didn’t really know who Charli XCX was before starring in her ‘360’ music video this summer.
Back in May, Sevigny appeared in the star-studded video, which was the fourth preview of the singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album ‘Brat’, which arrived on June 7. It followed on from singles ‘Von Dutch’, ‘Club Classics’ and ‘B2B’.
Directed by Aidan Zamiri, the ‘360’ visuals boasted an all-star cast of Charli’s friends and collaborators. The video starred Sevigny alongside Chloe Cherry, Julia Fox, Greer Cohen, Alex Consani, Rachel Sennott, Emma Chamberlain, A. G. Cook, Hari Nef, Isamaya Ffrench, Matisse Andrews, Quenlin Blackwell, Sakura Bready, Anna Collins, Blizzy McGuire, Tess McMillan, Salem Mitchell, Peri Rosenzweig and Niki Takesh.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sevigny opened up about her experience of starring in the video.
“Honestly, I didn’t know much about her [Charli XCX]. I had seen her, like, all over my Instagram. All the girlies, all the kids loved her. And I was like, ‘Who is this Charli XCX?’ And then they told me who else was going to be in the video, and I was like, ‘Rachel Sennott? I’m in.’ I’m like, I adore that person. I’m in love with her.”
Fallon went on to ask her if Charli told her what Brat Summer meant. She replied: “I asked the director, I was like, ‘So, what’s the mood? What’s the vibe in the video? How should I act?’ And he’s like, ‘Just act like a brat.’ I was like, ‘A brat?’ I mean, I have a 4-year-old. I know what a fucking brat is.”
Sevigny continued: “I can do brat, but I said, ‘I would rather do attitude, you know. I think I’m too old to be a brat.’ I was like, ‘Let’s do sexy attitude.’” Sevigny said the experience was “super fun,” adding: “You got to keep it alive. Keep it fresh.”
She also revealed that while she was filming current Netflix hit, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, her co-star in the project Cooper Koch told her “You have to do it,” which also played a part in her decision.

Speaking to NME in March about what to expect from ‘Brat’, Charli explained: “It’s kind of bitchy and gossipy and hardcore and very club feeling. It’s definitely one for the girls who like to party and sweat and rave.
“I feel good about the music. Every artist says this about their new record but I really do feel like this is my best music [yet]. I’m super excited.” Watch the full video interview above.
In a four star review of the album, NME said: “It all paints a picture of who XCX is in 2024. Growing pains, grief and aching doubts come alongside self-confidence, celebration and the knowledge of the place XCX holds in the musical landscape – indeed, she kicks off ‘360’ with the knowing: “I went my own way and I made it / I’m your favourite reference baby”. With ‘Brat’, XCX demonstrates that going her own way will always sound pretty good.”
Meanwhile, Erik Menendez dismissed Sevigny’s latest Netflix show Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story as a “dishonest portrayal”, which caused series creator Ryan Murphy to defend the show, claiming that Erik “hasn’t watched the show”. The series cast also came out in support of the show following his comments.
This is the second season of Monster, with the first having covered the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. A third is in development, set to focus on Ed Gein, the killer who was the inspiration for Norman Bates in Psycho.
