The removal of a cheater in games like Call of Duty is a struggle that developers are constantly trying to overcome. But Activision has been putting in considerable effort to combat this problem. Its Ricochet anti-cheat system deploys a number of methods to root out cheaters and its latest move tells players when this happens. In a recent tweet over on the official Call of Duty X account, Activision says that the Ricochet system will now notify players about cheater removal from the lobby right in the kill feed.
The kill feed is that little string of text that sits on the left-hand side of the screen. Whenever you or someone else in the game gets a kill, it pops up there. And now it’ll list when cheaters have been identified and taken out of the lobby.
Displaying cheater removal in Call of Duty kill feeds will be good for player morale
While not the same as Ricochet’s other methods for actually dealing with cheaters, it’s still going to be a good change for legitimate players. Having a cheater in the lobby sucks all the fun out of a match. And with this new notification system in place, it should help to sort of boost player morale.
Think about being on the receiving end of a cheater’s shenanigans. It’s frustrating. And to some degree demoralizing to the point where it might cause you to lose interest in playing. Because you’re just so tired of dealing with cheaters. Now think about being able to see when cheaters are getting their comeuppance.
You’re likely to crack a little smile and feel some measure of joy. You might even get an infusion of desire to play more. That isn’t necessarily the reason the Ricochet team is implementing this feature. But it’s still likely to have that impact all the same. It’s encouragement from Ricochet’s end to let players know that its systems are putting in work to get rid of problem players.
Where before you would probably never know if a cheater was removed or not. Kicking cheaters out of online games is a continual battle. But these kinds of changes are definitely positive steps toward a victory in that battle.
