While still in military service, singer reveals first new music since debut LP Layover

Just six months after BTS’ V released his debut album Layover, the singer will return with a new single titled “FRI(END)S.”

V and Big Hit Music previously teased the track on social media before formally announcing the digital single on Sunday, revealing the song title and March 15 release date.

According to label Big Hit, “FRI(END)S” is “rooted in the Pop Soul R&B genre, delivers relatable and witty romance through lyrics written entirely in English.”

In September 2023, V released Layover, which spawned the singles “Love Me Again,” “Rainy Days,” and “Slow Dancing.” Soon after, V and his BTS band mates Jungkook, Jimin, and RM had started to carry out their mandatory military enlistment in South Korea, which is expected to keep the K-pop act on hiatus until 2025.

Prior to beginning his military service, V hinted that he “prepared” some things to keep fans occupied while he was away. “Within 18 months, I’ve prepared a lot of things. Please look forward do it,” V wrote in December 2023. “I’ll really miss you. I love you so much.”
