For Edward Enninful’s final cover as editor-in-chief at British Vogue, dozens of women who have dominated in music, film, television, and more gathered for an epic photoshoot to signal the end of an era. The 40 figures captured for the cover span from Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa to Oprah and Jane Fonda to Maya Jama and Laverne Cox.

“To get one of these women on a cover takes months,” Cyrus acknowledged in the recently published story about the shoot. “To get 40? Unheard of.”

The cover captures Serena Williams next to Anya Taylor-Joy and Rina Sawayama; Gemma Chan stationed behind Gigi Hadid; Jameela Jamil backed by Cara Delevingne; Simone Ashley in a power cluster with Salma Hayek, Cynthia Erivo, Kaia Gerber, Salma Blair, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and more.

Victoria Beckham, Ariana DeBose, Jourdann Dunn, Karlie Kloss, Cindy Crawford, Jodie Comer, Iman, Paloma Elesser, Linda Evangelista, Precious Lee, Irina Shayk, and Adwoa Aboah are also pictured.

“I never even thought of fashion as being a viable platform or venue for changing the world before Edward Enninful,” Oprah shared in a compilation video captured at the shoot. “So I think fashion can change the world if you have someone in a leadership position who is using purposely, intentionally fashion to change the world.”

During Enninful’s tenure at British Vogue, Beyoncé charged into the Renaissance era on a red stallion; Rihanna donned a durag on one cover and posed with her growing family on another; Billie Eilish went full Old Hollywood; and Timothée Chalamet became the first solo male cover star in the magazine’s history.

“So here it is: my 76th and final edition of Vogue, six and a half years and 153 cover stars later, including the 40 legendary women who feature on this cover. It’s been an extraordinary ride and an absolute honour,” Enninful wrote. “As I step into my new role, as Condé Nast’s global creative and cultural advisor for Vogue, I’m determined to keep championing the incredible array of voices in fashion and media, and ensure we keep the energy explosion of the last few years going. We always say it, because it always needs to be said: there is a great deal yet to be done.”
