Ben Affleck had addressed claims that he always looks “angry” in photos, insisting he simply has “resting hard face”.

The Good Will Hunting star recently featured on Kevin Hart‘s Peacock talkshow, Hart to Heart, where he discussed become a child actor against his parents’ wishes, being rejected by various projects early on in his career, working with Matt Damon and more.

Towards the end of the conversation, the actor also addressed why he often appears to be grumpy in photographs.

“I’m also a little bit shy,” Affleck said. “I also don’t like a lot of attention. That’s why people see me, and they’re like, ‘Why’s this dude always mad?’ Because somebody has their camera and sticks it in my face and I’m like, ‘OK, here we go.’”

Affleck admitted he doesn’t “give a fuck” if he’s being photographed by himself or with his wife Jennifer Lopez at clubs and premieres, but when his kids or step-kids are involved, that’s when he becomes a little more defensive. He then added that, sometimes, he just naturally has an angry/upset expression on his face.

The Gone Girl star explained: “By the way, I also might be somebody who… I’ll be sitting at home, and [the kids are] like, ‘What’s wrong?’ ‘Nothing. Nothing’s wrong.’ I’m like, ‘Nothing. I’m listening to this thing.’ I start thinking, is something wrong?”

When Hart joked that Affleck might just have a “resting bitch face,” the Air producer responded: “Bitch?! Now, now, I have resting hard face.”

Affleck went on to say that online reactions to his expressions are not a reflection of his actual mood, but rather “people projecting something onto me that I don’t feel about myself at all.”

Back in May, Jennifer Lopez batted off a question about her marriage to Affleck during a press conference for her new Netflix film Atlas. The question came following various outlets speculating that the two may be headed for divorce.

Following the question, Lopez’s co-star in the film Simu Liu interjected and shut down the reporter. “Ok, we’re not doing that,” Liu said. “Thank you so much guys, we really appreciate it. Thank you. Don’t come in with that energy please.”

J.Lo then chimed in, and while not sharing any details about her marriage, leant into the microphone, looked at the reporter and said: “You know better than that.”

She was previously engaged to Affleck before splitting in 2004. They then got back together and married in July 2022, and their relationship was documented in part when Lopez shared the documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told.
